This piece included writing and illustrating a zine–a mini comic book–with a cohesive story. In my zine, a misunderstood little girl named Kaia is sent away from her home tribe and doesn’t know why. She arrives at her new home, but doesn’t exactly receive a warm welcome; Everett, the boy who lives there, is terrified of her. For the cover illustration, I kept the colors somewhat dark to convey Kaia’s feelings of loneliness and alienation in her new environment. Inside, I used the same style of cartooning, but used harder outlines and distinct panel separations that would make the images flow better in a comic format.
